The Cove

I got invited to a cove near verde island by my sister’s PADI dive instructor Glenn this weekend. This is their second trip there and they’re trying to set up the spot as a dive site so i’m coming along to assist in any way I can.

I had to leave Quezon City at 4AM to get to McDonalds in Alabang Town Center by 6AM where we were meeting. I took a bus from EDSA heading to Alabang (50 PHP) then took a taxi from Star Mall to reach McDonalds (150 PHP). If the taxi ride looks steep, its because it is steep. I was in a hurry to get there so i didn’t ride the Alabang-Zapote jeep passing through the market which would be much cheaper.

The Cove is privately owned and its owner requested some help in developing it as a dive camp. Its location is directly in front of verde island so it already has potential as a hub for drivers waiting to go to the island. It just needs some infrastructure developments and some rentable diving gear, tanks and a compressor.

The reef in the bay is much better than I expected based on the pictures from Glenn’s previous dive here. In fact, it’s pretty good, with an abundance of fish to boot! Water quality is also great at around 20m visibility but according to Adam it was even better last time. The current can get pretty strong though although we didn’t have a problem this time.

We only did one dive but it left me wanting to see more. Hopefully I can come back to explore the area and hell develop the site.
